Join us to Clean Up the Beaches and Parks

Have you heard of the Ocean Conservancy? Every year, they invite people all around the world to join their beach cleanup community service event. Over the past 30 years , volunteers from 153 countries have collected more than 220 million pounds of trash.

Similar to the Ocean Conservancy, AMC team members and their families gather together to clean up local parks and beaches each year. Because of COVID-19, we cannot gather in person, but we can each organize small crews to clean our beautiful parks and beaches. As we work together to keep the environment clean, our small efforts will produce impressive results. Please join us for our beach and park cleanup community service event on Saturday, July 25. Here is why cleanups are important and what you can do to prepare for them.

The Importance of Cleanups

There is nothing better than basking on the sand, watching your kids build sandcastles, and playing beach volleyball with your friends. Likewise, there is something about spending cool summer evenings at a nearby park with your family eating Chinese takeout or pizza. Our beaches and parks are recreational landscapes for us to enjoy. They also house hundreds of wild and marine life . By holding frequent cleanups, we create an environment that promotes enjoyment and serves as a sanctuary for animals and plants.

Whether you go to Ashiya Park or take a day trip to Seal Beach , your cleanup efforts will positively impact the environment! Local families and wildlife will appreciate your efforts.

How to Prepare

Now that you have marked July 25 on your calendar, it is time to make a cleanup plan. Here is a list of items you should consider bringing:

  • Healthy snacks
  • Sunscreen
  • Trash bags
  • Litter grabber
  • Gloves
  • DIY trash stick (like a ski pole to stab and pick up litter)
  • A mask

Stay Safe

Remember, COVIID-19 restrictions are still in place. For the safety of you and your loved ones, try to keep your cleanup crew small. If you invite people outside of your household, follow this advice from the CDC : “When guests arrive, minimize gestures that promote close contact. For example, don’t shake hands, do elbow bumps, or give hugs. Instead, wave and verbally greet them.” Lastly, maintain six feet apart and keep your mask on.

Help keep our beaches and parks beautiful by joining our cleanup event this July. If you can’t participate on July 25, select another day during the month to clean. We invite all participants to take photos and post them on social media. Don’t forget to tag Somerset Apartments and use the hashtags #AMCcleanup and #livehappy. Stay healthy and safe!
